The Senate Appropriations Committee put a hold on a bill that would expand peace officer presumptions in California to get a better sense of whether the state's budget could absorb the potential cost of the measure.
An analysis of Senate Bill 416, by Sen. Ben Hueso, D-San Diego, says expanding presumptions to anyone meeting the Penal Code definition of peace officer would likely result in higher workers' compensation costs for the state as an employer.
