Obese Oil Workers More Likely to Miss Work

Obese petrochemical workers were 80% more likely to miss work and missed an average of 3.7 days per year more than staffers with normal body weights, a study revealed.Researchers conducted a 10-year study of 4,153 Shell Oil Co. employees from 1994 to 2003. Their results showed that obese employees missed about 7.7 days of work per year, which is more than the 4 days per year employees with normal body weights tended to miss.“Furthermore, 31% of the total illness absence was attributable to overweight and obesity in 1994, and the percentage had risen to 36% by 2003,” the study says....
