Industrial Commission Starts Sending Notices by Email

The North Carolina Industrial Commission has been sending attorneys of record notice of opinions and award by email since the start of they year.

The commission said it will use only certified mail to provide notice when it does not know an attorney’s email address, or when notifying a self-represented party.

Using email rather than certified mail in most cases should reduce costs and be a more efficient way to provide notice, the commission said.

The commission said lawmakers authorized the move to electronic notifications in passing Senate Bill 257 last year.
