Nebraska suffered 55 workplace fatalities in 2014, and its 5.8 deaths per 100,000 full-time employees far exceeded the national rate of 3.4, a recent report says.
Despite having more injuries and illnesses than the average state, Nebraska paid just $305 million in workers’ compensation benefits in 2013, or $337 per worker, compared to the national average of $491, the report by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services says.
In 2014, an estimated 23,100 nonfatal work-related injuries and illnesses were reported by Nebraska private sector employers, the report says.
