Utah lawmakers in 2019 will consider a proposal to move money from a reinsurance fund to the program that pays benefits for people hurt while working for uninsured employers.
The Employers' Reinsurance Fund acts as a reinsurer to the commercial insurance market for claimants who exceed a specific period of benefits, and to pay liability for pre-existing impairment of workers disabled by a work accident. It was closed to new injuries more than 20 years ago and covers only injuries that occurred prior to July 1994.
