Brannan, who resigned his position on May 1, has registered as a lobbyist with the Texas Ethics Commission, a spokesman said.

“My years in and around government have taught me the value of sound policy, tireless advocacy and strong relationships,” Brannan said in a press release. “Success in the public arena is achieved with a smart, strategic approach, an extensive understanding of the issues and the building of solid coalitions.”

Brannan was appointed workers’ compensation commissioner by Gov. Rick Perry in 2014 and reappointed by Gov. Greg Abbott. Prior to that, he served in the Office of Budget, Planning and Policy for Perry, advising him on budget and policy issues, including insurance, public health, tort reform, land use, eminent domain, gaming and racing.

Prior to joining state government, Brannan advocated for policy issues in the Texas Capitol, and wrote extensive position papers for the Texas Public Policy Foundation and Dallas County Republican Party. His work on insurance, electricity, telecommunications, tort reform, eminent domain and consumer finance has appeared in numerous publications, including the Wall Street Journal, Texas Lawyer, the Dallas Morning News, the Houston Chronicle and the Austin-American Statesman.

Brannan began his public policy career in the D.C. office of Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Brannan also announced he will be joining Troxclair PC, a premier government affairs law firm in Austin, as “of counsel.” Brannan received his Juris Doctor from the University of Oklahoma and is a member of the Texas State Bar.

Brannan lives with his wife and two daughters in Austin, where he is active in the Austin Baptist Church.
