The 1st District Court of Appeal last week ruled that a corporate officer for an elevator service company could not be haled into Florida to defend against claims of misconduct by the family of a fatally injured worker.
Robert Myers had worked for the Otis Elevator Co. In February 2017, he went to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare to perform maintenance work on an elevator.
Myers pushed the emergency stop button, which is supposed to make the elevator inoperable. Security cameras captured footage of Myers entering the elevator shaft, and the movement of his flashlight beam as he worked.
