California Labor Commissioner Julie A. Su filed a lawsuit against Calcrete Construction Inc., seeking $6.3 million for alleged violations including wage theft and intentional misclassification of employees as independent contractors.
Calcrete employees typically worked 10- to 12-hour shifts Monday through Friday, plus an eight-hour shift on Saturday, the commissioner's office said in a statement. But the commissioner alleges the company paid its workers only their regular hourly rate, with no compensation for the 18 to 28 hours of overtime they worked.
