Governor Approves Bill to Clarify Alternative Coverage for Commercial Drivers

Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper signed into law a bill intended to clarify the coverage requirements for independent contractors who drive commercial vehicles. The governor on Friday signed SB 178, by Sen. Jim Smallwood, R-Parker. The bill clarifies that commercial drivers who elect not to carry workers’ compensation coverage for themselves must purchase an “occupational accident” policy that provides similar benefits.
