State lawmakers in both New York and Vermont are considering tweaking workers' compensation statutes to bring about mandatory paid parental leave following the birth of a child.
Senate Bill 213 was filed in the Vermont General Assembly Wednesday. It proposes that employees pay a part of the cost of paid leave for new mothers and fathers. If the increase to the cost of the insurance is not covered by the employee payments, the employer has to pay the difference, under the legislation.
