The California 4th District Court of Appeal on Friday ruled that Riverside County was liable for a former deputy sheriff's cumulative trauma injuries, notwithstanding his subsequent employment as a police officer for a federally recognized Indian tribe.
Peter Sylves had worked as a deputy sheriff for the County of Riverside from 1998 until 2010. He then took a job with the Pauma Police Department, working on a reservation belonging to the Pauma Band of Luiseno Indians, up until July 4, 2014.
On July 16, 2014, Sylves filed a workers' compensation claim.
