North Carolina lawmakers have passed legislation to curb employee misclassification, three years after journalists digging into the issue determined the practice cost the state $467 million in state and federal tax revenues annually in the construction industry alone.
The House of Representatives on Thursday returned for a one-day special session following its June 30 adjournment and unanimously passed Senate Bill 407, the Employee Fair Classification Act.
