According to an LA Times report this morning, Gov. Gray Davis has struck a deal with organized labor, trial lawyers and Democratic lawmakers on a workers' compensation benefits increase. The Times says that legislation currently being drafted will increase benefits for injured workers from the current $490 a week to $602 starting in January 2003, and to $840 by 2006. Beyond 2006, benefits would rise automatically based on the annualized average California weekly wage. Death benefits also would double by 2006.
