The collapse of a Clarksburg cell phone tower that killed three people in February has prompted the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration to propose fines of $14,000 for two serious safety violations, OSHA said.
Contract workers for S and S Communications Specialists Inc. were replacing diagonal supports on the 300-foot-tall tower when it fell, killing two workers from Oklahoma.
The tower’s collapse put stress on a guy wire that weakened a second smaller tower that also collapsed, killing a volunteer firefighter from Clarksburg. Three others were injured.
