Lamar Whitman, director of state and federal taxation for the Alliance of American Insurers, wrote the following letter to the editor of the Los Angeles Times. In it, he seeks to clarify several points in a Dec. 19 article the newspaper ran on a recent California Board of Equalization ruling that workers compensation deductibles are not subject to a retroactive premium tax. The Alliance had urged the board to strike down the levy, calling it "economically and fiscally disruptive."
