Bloomberg News reports that Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE:BRKa) , whose General Reinsurance Corp. is the biggest reinsurer in the United States, may be planning a bid for Employers Reinsurance Corp., a unit of General Electric (NYSE:GE) Employers Re is the second-largest U.S. reinsurer.
Citing "people familiar with the situation," Bloomberg said Berkshire Hathaway has made inquiry into Employers Re but hasn't matched the $8 billion GE wants for the company.
