Publix Supermarkets, under fire for supporting pro-gun candidates in Florida, the site of a recent mass shooting, also has donated to causes and candidates in nearby Alabama, including a political action committee that advocates on self-insured workers' compensation issues.
Since 2013, the grocery chain donated $10,000 to Comp PAC, a workers' compensation committee that state records show is affiliated with the Alabama Self-Insurance Association. The chairman is Richard Brown, who also is listed as vice president of the Alabama Retail Association.
