Blocked Exit Leads to Safety Citations for Dollar General

A Dollar General store in O’Fallon, Missouri allegedly allowed trash to accumulate into a pile 5 feet high by 15 feet long, blocking workers’ access to an emergency exit and prompting a federal safety citation. Inspectors with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration also found that one of two emergency exits was kept locked with a deadbolt while workers were in the store, another safety violation, the agency said. In all, OSHA cited the O'Fallon store for two willful, six serious and one other-than-serious violations on Jan. 28. Proposed penalties total $163,000...
