Labor Cabinet Hosts OSHA Training Session Next Week

The Kentucky Labor Cabinet will host free OSHA training all next week in Bowling Green, part of regular safety and health training sessions held around the state, the Cabinet announced.

Known as the Population Center Training courses, the sessions are for employers and employees, and are designed to outline the requirements of federal and state safety regulations. Last year, more than 1,600 people attended.

The Cabinet's Division of Occupational Safety & Health Training also conducted 254 consultative survey site visits, which instructed employers on almost 1,800 unsafe conditions that could have resulted in $12.5 million in penalties, the division said.

Next week's training session will be at the Holiday Inn University Plaza, 1021 Wilkinson Trace, Bowling Green. Registration is available at the website. The sessions include:

Monday:

• Overview of the Kentucky Occupational Safety and Health program, including enforcement and compliance, and future standards.
• Hazard communication/global harmonization, on requirements of the 29 CFR 1910.1200 and the globally harmonized system of classification and labeling of chemicals.

Tuesday:

• Injury and illness record-keeping, including forms and guidelines.
• Blood-borne pathogens regulations, safety measures and infection control.

Wednesday:

• Regulations on working in confined spaces.
• Personal protective equipment as required by federal regulations, and how to use and care for the equipment, and hazard assessments.

Thursday:

• Fall protection standards and fire protection, including emergency action and prevention plans, exit routes, types of fires.

Friday:

• Wage and hour regulations, including minimum wage, overtime, record-keeping, and illegal deductions.
