A complaint to the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration resulted in $265,147 in proposed penalties against a Texas rail car repair, refurbishment and maintenance company.
OSHA cited GBW Railcar Services in Hockley for failing to protect workers from combustible dust, confined-space and respiratory hazards. The agency said two contractors were killed and another seriously injured in a combustible dust explosion at the facility in 2012.
The repeated violations cited in OSHA’s action are based on hazardous conditions identified in a 2012 inspection.
