OSHA Judge Upholds Fine for Roofer Who Misclassified Workers

A U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration administrative law judge has shot down a Connecticut roofing firm owner’s assertion that it should not be fined for workplace safety violations because workers on one of its job sites were independent contractors. Administrative Law Judge Keith Bell upheld the proposed penalties of $20,240 against Canton, Connecticut-based Royal Construction Company for seven workplace safety violations, six of them serious and one a repeat violation.
