In the final article in a scathing series on workers' compensation costs for Los Angeles area governmental entities, the Daily News of Los Angeles has reported that the County of Los Angeles' workers' compensation costs have soared 65 percent in the past five years to a record $242 million in 2001, but that only recently has there been more than one part-time investigator reviewing the thousands of claims for fraud, and not surprisingly that not a single case of fraud was prosecuted.
