Safeco Chairman and CEO Mike McGavick announced Monday that he plans to resign his post on Aug. 31 and "give full consideration to public service."
The Seattle Times reported that McGavick, a Republican, is considering a run against Democratic U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell. Safeco is based in Seattle.
But McGavick apparently doesn't oppose all Democrats. Under his leadership, Safeco's board of directors in February appointed former Washington Gov. Gary Locke, a Democrat, to a director's position.
McGavick will retain his duties as chairman of
the board and will provide other transitional leader...
