Gov. Bob Taft's former top adviser was found guilty last week of a misdemeanor ethics charge and fined $1,000, becoming the first person convicted in Ohio's "Coingate" scandal.
Brian Hicks pleaded no contest Friday to failing to report he had stayed at a Florida vacation home owned by a coin dealer, the Akron Beacon Journal reported.
Hicks paid $500 for five nights in a Florida Keys vacation home in March 2002 and $300 for four nights in 2003, according to the charge. Comparable houses nearby rent for more than $2,000 a week, the Beacon Journal reported.
