The branch sales manager for Bankers Life and Casualty Insurance Co. in South Portland has been fined $5,000 and a 180-day license suspension by the Maine Bureau of Insurance. Superintendent of Insurance Alessandro Iuppa made the announcement last week about disciplinary action against Gary Russell Smith for violating Maine law. Bureau staff investigated two distinct consumer complaints of inappropriate sales actions by several producers from the South Portland branch office.
