Legislation requiring health care providers to furnish state ombudsmen assisting injured workers with the workers' medical records at no charge received approval Wednesday by the Texas House of Representatives.
House Bill 888 by Rep. Helen Giddings, D-Dallas, passed on a 141-0 vote and was sent to the Senate.
Lawmakers created the Office of Injured Employee Counsel to assist injured employees with their workers' compensation claims as part of the 2005 reforms. The office uses ombudsmen to help injured workers pursue their claims.
