U.S. Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (D-N.Y.) has asked Bush Administration
officials to explain why a federal program to monitor the medical
conditions of 9/11 rescue and cleanup workers was quietly terminated
in 2003.
The program, funded by a $3.7 million grant from the Federal Emergency
Management Agency, was meant to provide quick diagnosis and ongoing
screening for thousands of federal workers who responded to the World
