Maryland Allows Out of State Claims Handling

Maryland Gov. Parris Glendening signed Maryland Senate Bill 592 on 5/18/01, which allows workers' compensation insurers to handle undisputed claims out of state. The bill was proposed by state Sen. George W. Della Jr., D-Baltimore and was unanimously approved by both the House and the Senate. Carriers can also establish toll-free phone lines to handle undisputed claims, rather than having to handle claims through an in-state office.
