Trenching Work Prompts $112,250 in Fines

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration issued seven citations with fines totaling $112,250 in fines against Kautza Excavation doing business from Antigo, Wis., for alleged trenching violations. OSHA reported it opened an inspection in June after agency employees observed a deep trenching operation as part of an underground water and sewer replacement project. The agency subsequently issued three willful citations with penalties totaling $105,000 for allegedly exposing workers to potential cave-in hazards inside the 12-foot deep trench, failing to provide a safe means of egress...
