American Financial Group,
Inc. (NYSE: AFG) yesterday reported net earnings for the 2002 fourth quarter of
$44.2 million ($.64 per share). These results included an after-tax charge of
$19.5 million relating to the settlement of asbestos litigation affecting one
of its operating subsidiaries. This settlement charge was offset by the
benefit of the resolution of certain tax issues and net realized gains on
investments. AFG's net earnings for the 2001 fourth quarter were
$31.5 million ($.46 per share).
