Oregon workplace injury and illness rates declined in 2003
(Salem) The private sector workplace injury and illness rate in Oregon declined 6.7 percent in calendar
year 2003. Oregonians were injured on the job or suffered work-related illnesses at a rate of 5.6 incidents
per 100 full-time workers during the year, down from the 2002 rate of 6.0 incidents per 100 workers.
"Oregon's workers' compensation costs were 42nd in the nation last year, and the single biggest factor in
keeping our costs low has been a steady reduction of injury and illness rates since the late 1980s," said
