A Vermont eye doctor on trial for allegedly performing surgeries that weren't necessary has persuaded a federal judge to toss out the bulk of the charges against him.
Dr. David Chase of Burlington has been on trial two months for 71 counts of health care fraud. Prosecutors allege that Chase performed cataract surgeries that were unnecessary and he billed health insurers for approximately $1 million through his deceptive practice, the Associated Press reported.
