A claimant forfeited his right to workers' compensation benefits by settling claims for subsequent accidents without his employer's approval, the Louisiana Supreme Court ruled.
In Haynes v. United Parcel Service, no. 05-C-2378 (7/6/06), several boxes fell on UPS driver Frank Haynes while he was unloading his truck. He sustained injuries to his head, neck and back in a work-related accident on Aug. 28, 2001. As a result of his injury, Haynes received medical and indemnity benefits from UPS's compensation insurer, Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. (Liberty Mutual).
