Adding short breaks in the work day for data entry clerks can reduce the amount of discomfort and eyestrain, a study found.
The follow-up field study published in the July 2007 issue of the American Journal of Industrial Medicine also concluded that the breaks did not hamper productivity.
The 51 workers spent four weeks with two, traditional 15 minute breaks. The workers then spent four weeks with the original two breaks and four five-minute breaks. Slightly less than one-half were assigned to stretch during the breaks. The workers completed study symptom questionnaires.
