SACRAMENTO -- California Fraud Assessment Commission Chairman Bill Zachry is itching to discuss some potential major abuses of the workers' compensation industry, but he can't get anybody to show up to a meeting and talk about them.
So, on Wednesday he asked Department of Insurance staffers if the commission had subpoena powers that could be used to compel testimony.
"It's disappointing when we raise issues with entities and they do not come to our meetings," Zachry said. "We tried the polite way and it doesn't seem to be working."
