A former Liberty Mutual claims manager in New Jersey, who sent relatives $1.7 million over the years, was sentenced yesterday in U.S. District Court in Trenton to 40 months in prison, and restitution of the stolen money.
Barbara Ruggiero, 46, of Voorhees, NJ, pleaded guilty to mail fraud on May 22.Ruggiero worked for Liberty Mutual for 19 years. From June 1996 to June 1998, while working as a claims manager for the company's Marlton office, took file numbers from legitimate, settled claims and used those cases to send checks to family members.
