Wellstone Had no Comp, But State Picks up Tab

The Minnesota Star Tribune reports, with a bit of irony, that when the late Sen. Paul Wellstone's plane crashed, with several reelection campaign staffers on board, there was no worker's compensation insurance. No worries for the campaign and those otherwise responsible - the bulk of the liability will be picked up by the state and Minnesota taxpayers.Under a settlement with the Minnesota Department of Labor & Industry, reports the Star Tribune, Wellstone's campaign organization will get away with paying only about $400,000 and a special state fund will cover the balance of benefits projected ...
