Indiana's third-largest county believes that it might sock away more than $400,000 for a rainy day by self-funding its workers' compensation program for the next couple of years.
Allen County's board of commissioners voted this week to self-insure rather than to participate again in the Indiana Public Employees Plan -- an insurance pool for local governments, the Fort Wayne News-Sentinel reported this week.
The commissioners took their action with the expectation the county could reduce its workers' compensation costs by $227,000 the first year and nearly $440,000 over the two-year cycle. ...
