Insurance giant Marsh & McClennan Cos. and its brokerage subsidiary Marsh USA have been dragged into the Rhode Island governor's race with contentions by Lt. Gov. Charlie Fogarty that Marsh USA should be the target of a state audit.
Fogarty, the Democrat trying to unseat Republican Gov. Donald Carcieri, launched the latest volley in what has become a vitriolic exchange of corruption charges that have swept in the state General Assembly and a group of private companies, leaving Fogarty and Carcieri in a dead heat based on a USA/Gallup Poll in October.
