The California Department of Insurance appointed Amorette Yang to serve as deputy commissioner of community programs and policy initiatives.
Yang currently serves as chief of the community programs and policy initiatives branch. Before joining the California Department of Insurance, she was capacity building manager for the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development.
Yang replaces Chris Shultz, who accepted an appointment to serve as chief deputy director with the Department of Consumer Affairs.
During his tenure, Shultz managed issues including the insurance gap for ride-hailing services such as Uber and Lyft, the department’s insurance diversity initiative and how to fit autonomous vehicles into the department’s regulatory scheme.
