A state trooper arrested after a bar fight over the weekend has been out of work on a workers' compensation injury since September, the Hartford Courant reports.

Jeffrey Meninno, 52, of Waterford, was charged with assault and breach of peace after a fight at Chapter One Bar and Grill in Mystic that sent a man to the hospital for injuries including a broken jaw. 

State comptroller records show that Meninno has been receiving workers' compensation benefits since Sept. 16, the Courant reports. The records do not indicate the nature of his injury. 

State police say Meninno's police powers have been suspended, and his badge and gun have been confiscated pending the outcome of the investigation. 

Meninno was arrested at 4:16 a.m. on Saturday at his home. Groton police had been called to Chapter One Bar around 1 a.m., where witnesses told them that Meninno had been involved in a fight. They accused him of punching a man in the face several times and pushing someone who tried to intervene. 

After his booking, Meninno was released on a $2,500 bond and ordered to appear in Superior Court in New London next Tuesday. 

A state police spokesman reached by WorkCompCentral on Monday would not comment about the status of Meninno's workers' compensation benefits.
