Federal agents raided the office of an Overland Park pain management doctor with ties to Insys Therapeutics, an opioid manufacturer at the center of a federal kickback case, last week, the Kansas City Star reported.

The Federal Bureau of Investigations seized Steven Simon's patient records, the owner of the clinic where he works confirmed to the Star. 

Simon collected more than $200,000 in meals, speaking fees and travel expenses from Insys Therapeutics' "speaker program," according to a ProPublica database. The speaker program is under federal investigation as a potential source of kickbacks. 

Insys Therapeutics manufactured Subsys, a fentanyl spray so powerful that it was FDA approved only to treat breakthrough pain in cancer patients. Insys was accused of using kickbacks and bribes to persuade practitioners to prescribe the drug. Most of the prescriptions went to non-cancer patients, prosecutors say.

Seven of the company's executives and managers were arrested in December, and charged with racketeering or conspiracy to commit racketeering.
