Kids' Chance of Texas Spreads the Word with Awareness Week

Austin, Texas - November 7, 2019 - Kids' Chance is a non-profit organization that provides scholarship opportunities to children who have been impacted by a parent's catastrophic work-related injury or death. November 11-15, 2019 has been designated Kids' Chance Awareness Week to highlight the scholarships offered by Kids' Chance of Texas in our state, and to support Kids' Chance organizations across the country.

 

This Fall, Kids' Chance of Texas provided over $20,000 in scholarships to 10 deserving students, including twin sisters who lost their father in a work-related vehicle accident earlier this year. More scholarships are anticipated to be awarded for the Spring semester. To be eligible the student must bebetween 16 - 25 years old; a full-time student at a university, college or technical/trade school; and the child of a parent who had a catastrophic work-related injury while a resident of Texas. The injury does not have to be a Texas workers' compensation claim but must be work-related. The scholarship is particularly helpful because it is not limited to paying for tuition and can used for other education-related expenses such as a computer, books, or rent.

 

Kids' Chance of Texas board member, Jane Stone, said "When you represent insurance carriers in fatality and catastrophic injury cases, you realize how the families are impacted so dramatically. So,this is a chance for me, and everyone in the workers' compensation system to give back."

 

By connecting with eligible applicants and continuing fundraising efforts, Kids' Chance of Texashopes to provide more educational opportunities to even more students in the future.
