Risico Launches Insurance Product for FLCs in the Cannabis Industry

FRESNO, CA - October 13, 2020  - Risico Insurance Services Inc., a leader in agricultural workers' compensation insurance, has announced the expansion of its underwriting authority to include coverage for Farm Labor Contractors (FLCs) who provide agricultural labor services to cannabis growing operations.

According to the California Cannabis Portal, a CA.gov website, it has been nearly two years since voters in California approved Proposition 64, the Adult Use of Marijuana Act (AUMA). Under Proposition 64, adults 21 years of age or older can legally grow, possess, and use cannabis for non-medicinal purposes, with certain restrictions. Proposition 64 also made it legal to sell and distribute cannabis through a regulated business as of January 1, 2018.

Steven C. Wigh, Risico's President and Chief Operating Officer, states, "We are excited to add this as an extension of Risico's support of the Agriculture Industry. We are now able to work with FLC's, contracted to work with farming operations who grow cannabis, providing the FLC with coverage and workers' compensation resources they need."

Risico is a full-service workers' compensation insurance Managing General Agent (MGA) located in the heart of California's Central Valley.
