A Louisiana appellate court upheld an award of benefits, fees and penalties to a worker who suffered injuries in an explosion in 2018.

Facts: Byrle Raney was working for Top Deck Inc. at a pulp and paper mill in DeRidder when an explosion ripped through the facility in February 2018. The blast was triggered by workers who were welding and grinding above a tank that contained flammable materials.
The explosion killed three workers. Raney allegedly suffered injuries as well.
