The California Division of Workers’ Compensation announced plans to dismiss more than 292,000 liens for which mandatory supplemental lien forms and declarations were not filed.
The total claimed value of the liens is about $2.7 billion, according to DWC spokeswoman Erika Monterroza. She said the estimated value does not include administrative costs of defending against the liens.
The Workers’ Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau estimates the cost of defending and settling a lien is about $1,000.
The DWC said it will be dismissing liens by operation of law today.
