Ride-hailing firm Uber Technologies Inc. reached a $20 million settlement with approximately 13,600 drivers who said they were misclassified as contractors, according to documents filed with the federal court for Northern California.
The settlement would bring to a close a pair of long-running complaints brought by workers who said their improper classification as contractors deprived them of basic protections including workers’ compensation coverage, rest and meal breaks, and minimum wage.
