A bill introduced in the West Virginia Legislature would exempt unpaid volunteers at ski areas from workers' compensation benefits.
Senate Bill 74, by Sen. Sue Cline, R-Wyoming, states that ski area volunteers who don’t receive wages, or volunteers for a ski area-sponsored program or activity, are not considered employees “notwithstanding that the persons may receive noncash remunerations.”
The Senate passed the bill on a 34-0 vote Thursday. It has now been referred to the House Banking and Insurance Committee.
