Police, Fire Injuries Cost L.A. Millions

An injury-leave program for Los Angeles police and firefighters paid $328 million in the past five years, according to a report by the Los Angeles Times. The number of police and firefighters who took leaves increased 8% from 2009 to 2013, and the total paid to city public safety workers increased 30% during this period, the newspaper reports. Nearly one out of every five police and firefighters in L.A. took at least one injury leave last year, a rate higher than any other large government. About 13% of public safety workers in Los Angeles and San Francisco counties took injury leave in 2013...
