Reserve Officers Get Comp Coverage Starting Jan. 1

The Indiana Compensation Rating Bureau has created a new class code and rate for police reserve officers, effective Jan. 1, the agency said in Circular 2017-08. The new code will be 7732, the loss cost per-capita rate will be $89 and the per-capita advisory rate will be $122. The new code and rate are the result of House Bill 1555, which was enacted April 25 and provides that police reserve officers are subject to the medical and wage-replacement benefits of the Indiana Workers’ Compensation Act even though they are volunteers and receive no compensation.
